I did my undergraduate work at Dartmouth, and my graduate work at Dartmouth and Worcester Polytechnic Institute. [In between undergraduate and graduate work, I taught for a year at Somerset High, 1968-69.] I received my initial academic appointment as Assistant Professor of Physics at Wentworth Institute of Technology in 1979. Over a span of ten years, I was tenured and promoted to Associate Professor (1982), Department Chair (1984), and Professor (1988). Between 1984 and 1989, I also doubled as the coach of the NCAA Division III men's and women's tennis teams.
In 1989, I came to the University of Hartford as Professor of Physics and Dean of the Samuel I Ward College of Technology. In 1997, I was named Dean of the University's separate College of Engineering. In 2003, the two colleges were merged into the College of Engineering, Technology, and Architecture, and I was named its first dean. In 2005, after sixteen years as a collegiate dean, I was "kicked upstairs" to be Associate Vice President and Dean of University Magnet Schools, which is my current title. Along the way, in 1997, I received the Distinguished Educator Award from the Physics Division of the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE).
Along with my five children listed above, I also have five grandchildren: Maxx, born 1999; MacKenna, born 2001; Melina, born 2005; Abigayle, born 2006; and Mason, born 2008.
A special thanks to my classmates who are planning the reunion, and to those who have set up this website. The amount of work involved is not trivial. I cherish my friendships from Somerset High, and hope to see as many of my classmates as possible at the reunion.
