Obituary for Gordon E. Roberts

Gordon E. Roberts, 73, of Fall River, died July 30, 2019. Born in Fall River, son of the late Charlotte (Slaiding) and Gordon J. Roberts of Somerset.

He was a 1964 graduate of Somerset High School and graduate of Plus School of Business. He worked as a computer programmer until he entered the Marine Corps and served as a meteorologist in California, North Carolina, and Vietnam. In Vietnam, he volunteered as an teacher for Vietnamese children. His exposure to Agent Orange there caused his illness. He left the Marine Corps in 1969 as a Staff Sargeant, receiving numerous commendations and awards.

On his return, he earned a degree in Business on the GI Bill and began his career in sales with Sherwin Williams. He then moved to Lappin Wallcovering, in Boston, later becoming General Manager of International Wallcovering US Division. After a long, successful career, he and his wife Nancy retired to Florida where they spent five years before returning home to spend time with their children and grandchildren.

He leaves his beloved family: wife, Nancy (Mullen) Roberts; daughter, Kara Roberts Powers, her husband Brendan and their children Lily, Charles and Maxwell; daughter, Kate (Roberts) Carvalho, her husband Lawrence and their children Molly and Sophie; beloved sister, Judith (Roberts) Charest and her husband Paul; nephew Paul Charest, wife Debbie and their children; niece Andrea (Cherest) Toolin and her husband Ryan and several other cousins, nieces and nephews

A memorial service will be held at Amicable Congregational Church. 3736 Main Road, Tiveton, RI, on Saturday, August 10, 2019, at 10:00 a.m., collation immediately following.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to the Dana Farber Sarcoma and Bone Cancer Treatment Center, Boston, MA or Hopehealth Hospice, Providence, RI.
