Got married shortly after graduation. Stayed home with kids until they went to school. Went to work as a bookkeeper at Burns, Inc., for 4 years; Vic's Car Wash for about 8 months; Fall River Gas Co. for 4 1/2 years. Went into business with my husband Ed, NE Cabinet & Interior Finish.
Ed and I were active with the Boy Scouts with our sons, and after recovering from a pretty serious construction accident he was employed by the Boy Scouts as the Ranger at Camp Noquochoke, Westport. We moved up there and when they decided to sell the camp we bought it from them.
We lived in Westport until we moved to Virginia in 1986. We've been here ever since and really love it.
I started quilting as a hobby when we first moved here and ended up working in our local quilt shop. I worked in sales, taught classes and ended up as the bookkeeper. I retired last November, as soon as I turned 62.
Ed and the boys now own Never Dark Whole House Generators here in Charlottesville, VA. Since I don't work anymore, I got talked into coming to work here a few days a week. Last winter was the snowiest one on record; 59 inches total, so the generator business was booming. Now I get to spend "quality time" with my sons every day. So much for retiring.
We have four grandchildren, six great- grandchildren. All of them now live in Virginia.
Ed and I were married for 46 years, but he passed away in June of 2011 and I inherited his job. Now at 66 I'm going to try retiring again.
